Star Committee Quest: Carlo Rey R. Vidamo

July 13-20, 2006—was scheduled for this year’s Star Committee Quest, one of the general planned activities of Institute of Arts and Sciences Student Council (IASSC). A quest for interested, determined, and skillful students belonging in the said institute. And after a week set for application, the alleviation of applicants and series of interviews took place last July 21-23, and thereafter, the Committee Chairpersons have finally chosen their members.

The following are the Committee Chairpersons and their respective committees:

Anne Fernando for Committee on Academics
Rose Ann Guillermo for Committee on Budget and Finance
John Paul Uminga for Committee on Publications
Ann Margaret Antonio for Committee on Public Information and Promotions
Ira Montecasro for Committee on Costs, Ways, and Means
Gerwin Gaerlan for Committee on Sports and Logistics
Elainne Carla Yap for Committee on Documents and Programs

Committee members are consisting mostly of first years and second years, and few from third and fourth years. Why? “Mostly kasi ng mga officers ay students from lower years also, kaya ang IASSC ay nag-o-open ng doors sa mga bata,” according to Gerwin Gaerlan, Committee on Sports and Logistics Chairperson. And also, they are encouraging them to be involved in different activities and actions that will be lying in the hearth of IAS.

Going back, the interviews aren’t as easy as you can think of. The applicants were hardly queried by the interviewers. Sure enough, only students who are determined, and have work ethics were chosen by the officers of the same kind.

Being a committee member surely is fun. You will get the chance to meet a lot of people. And best of all, you will get to witness the hard work of IASSC for us students. And also, you will have a chance of being a student leader someday. Truly, this organization means a lot.

For anyone who didn’t make it this semester, never lose hope, for IASSC officers are still be having the Star Committee Quest in every dawning of each succeeding years.

The second day began with an electrifying morning exercise followed by group dynamics facilitated by the IASSC Officers. In the afternoon, Joshua Vicario presented the projects of IASSC for the whole year. Former FEUCSO President Jeffrey Mora discussed a lecture with a theme: “What makes a student leader and what student leadership makes me.” He reiterated in his lecture that a leader is someone that beat love for mind, someone that dreams, faces a battle, has love and passion to service, and hands that ready to help other people. He made the participants inspired. He ended his speech with words of wisdom, “Despite all achievements, we must live with humility”.

The day ended with the presentation of each organization portraying IAS life. Jeffrey Mora and Norman Zafra former IAS Pres served as the judges. The English Language Circle ranked first place, followed by the Mass communication Society and Political Science Society respectively. The awarding ceremony followed afterwards. It was hosted by Lionel Cesora, Anne Marie Fernando and Victor Vitug. Individual and special awards were given to the participants with regards to their performance throughout the three-day activity. The program was closed by Prof. Bingculado.

The third day paved way for the departure from the resort back to FEU. The team building was indeed a success and became the means in making IAS a one team, one dream, one council!
